We are enjoying a few days on the Isle of Arran for our anniversary as we do every year. We are staying at the Auchrannie Hotel with a choice of the old House Hotel or Spa. This year it's the spa side, but more often than not we choose the house, both are perfect and the restaurants in both sides are excellent as are the swimming pools. The pleasure of a quick 45 minute drive to the ferry port at Ardrossan, a leisurely hour's crossing usually spent with coffee or a gin and then a 5 minute journey up to the hotel means that we still have most of the day ahead when we get here.
Arran itself is stunning, lovely scenery with sunlight dappled mountains reaching to 3000 feet in shades of purple and gold, beautiful views across the water to Ayrshire and lots of lovely walks. Driving round the Island, there are many places of interest little villages and small retail businesses selling locally crafted goods from toiletries to cheeses and whisky.
Many of our guests come across to Arran for a day trip and pick up gifts for taking home. It is also possible to leave the car on the mainland and come across as a foot passenger which is certainly more cost effective .
